Duration

01.07.1999-31.12.2000

Purpose

The project “Southeast European NGOs for the Stability Pact”started in July 1999 in partnership with the Berghof Research Centre for Constructive Conflict Management .
The project aimed to identify ways to support the goals of the Stability Pact - Working Table I by increasing the permanent cooperation and networking capacity of NGOs in South Eastern Europe.

Activities

1) identifying the existing networking programs, and co-operation relationships between NGOs in South Eastern Europe, as well as any other existing initiatives in this respect;
2) organizing a regional conference to identify the needs and priorities for future action;
3) disseminating the results of the conference and of adjacent research.

Results

    • A 5-day regional Conference was organized in Sinaia, Romania, in May 2000, with approximately 25 representatives of South Eastern NGOs in attendance.
    • The Conference produced the "Sinaia Recommendations", which focused on improving the flow of information by establishing effective communication and consultation between the structures of the Stability Pact and the representatives of the regional civil society. This document was presented at the Thessaloniki Meeting of the Stability Pact Working Table I and had a significant impact on the top-level decision-making of the Stability Pact structures;
    • The results of the Sinaia Regional Conference were published by the Berghof Research Centre, Berlin, as an Occasional Paper in September 2000. Over 5000 copies of the Paper were distributed to all the institutions and organizations involved in the activities of the Stability Pact;
    • As a follow-up, proposal was made concerning a 3-year project to create a South Eastern European NGOs Network
